AutoCAD design software enables professional creation and editing of 2D geometry and 3D models with solids, surfaces, and objects. It is one of the most internationally recognized softwares due to the wide variety of editing possibilities that can be found. For this reason, it is a program widely used by architects, engineers, and industrial designers, among others. Today, the software is developed and marketed by Autodesk, a leader in 3D design, engineering, and entertainment software. Founded in 1982, the multinational Autodesk is dedicated to the distribution of software for the manufacturing, construction and media industries, among others.
The program appeared the same year that Autodesk emerged, with an initial version that only had an editable blueprint and a number of limited features. Despite its simplicity, at the time it was a real revolution that was intended to replace traditional hand drawing with a digital one. The name AutoCAD refers to the company (Autodesk) and CAD to Computer Aided Design. Initially, it was not intended as a 3D design software, but was only dedicated to two-dimensional modeling. Over the years, AutoCAD has continued to evolve.
